PARD 2017

In an effort to stimulate research at the Pan-American level and recognize the efforts of our young investigators, the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO) has been organizing the Pan-American Research Day, in conjunction with the important partnerships with the Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and with Allergan Latin America, for the past several years and it has become an exciting tradition.

  1. There is no entrance fee for this event: it is free! The meeting is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 6, 2017, from 12:00 noon to 6 pm in Baltimore, Maryland, Sheraton Inner Harbor Hotel, Chesapeake Ballroom I & II. Even though there is no entrance fee, it is necessary to register for this meeting so we may prepare your name badge and program materials.

  2. If you have had a presentation accepted by ARVO 2017, we would like to offer you the possibility to present your work at our Pan-American Research Day meeting. The PAAO will feature two rooms for presentations: anterior and posterior segment papers. Offering two rooms will double your chances to be able to present your work.

Due to the popularity of this event, we always receive more requests to present than there are time slots available, so there is a review and selection process. If you are selected to be a program participant, you will be presenting your work in a speed presentation format: three minutes for presentation and two minutes for discussion. The preferred language for presentation is English but presentations may be in the language of the presenter: English, Spanish or Portuguese.

Submission deadline to participate in the program is March 30, 2017.

  3. The PAAO is offering traveling awards and scholarships!! A total of four (4) travel awards, in the amount of $1,500 each, will be presented this year. Please see the scholarships page or search keyword PARD 2017 for rules, restrictions and the application forms. If you have previously received an award from the Pan-American, you do not qualify to apply for an additional award.

The deadline for submitting your travel grant application is March 1, 2017. Remember, one award per person. If you have already received a travel award from ARVO or PAAO to attend this meeting, you do not qualify to apply for a PAAO award. Please see the link for all the rules and restrictions. You must be present to win.

Mark your calendar to plan to come one day early to attend/participate! This is a free event! We hope that you will partake in this opportunity to share your work and experience.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jorge Valdez
Chair, Organizing Committee
